If only you, God, would slay the wicked!
Away from me, you who are bloodthirsty!
They speak of you with evil intent;
your adversaries misuse your name.
Do I not hate those who hate you, LORD,
and abhor those who are in rebellion against you?
I have nothing but hatred for them;
I count them my enemies.
—Psalm 139: 19—22
Amanda notes: This drawing was my initial and most visceral reaction to these verses. Given my disposition and experiences in the context of my culture, I don't really get this part. I do feel like even this drawing is a bit dismissive, so I spent quite a bit of time after this attempting to identify a bit with the psalmist. Many more to come on this chunk.
